The Patroness and Perpetual Mayoress of Vera stars in the official poster of Easter Week 2026

The Holy Week of Vera advances with firm step towards its new edition and already has an official image. The Patroness and Perpetual Mayoress of the city, the Santísima Virgen de las Angustias, will preside over the poster announcing the Holy Week of Vera 2026, a symbol of devotion, history and tradition that represents the heart of the celebration of Vera’s passion.

The City Council of Vera, in collaboration with the Association of Brotherhoods and Guilds, promoted an artistic contest to select the work that will illustrate this year’s official program of the most important religious and cultural event of the municipality. The artist Diego Sanchez, from Palma del Condado, was the winner with a painting that stands out for its expressive force and aesthetic sensitivity.

The work, made in oil on board, captures with intensity the face of the Virgin of Sorrows, Marian image venerated by the Veratenses and patron saint of the city since the late nineteenth century. This year also marks the centenary of the canonical coronation of the Virgin, a milestone that adds a special historical and emotional value to the choice of the poster.

During the presentation ceremony, held in an environment full of solemnity, the mayor of Vera stressed the importance of this initiative to reinforce the cultural and religious identity of our municipality, as well as to strengthen the tourist and heritage projection of Holy Week. Under his eyes, the processions, events and brotherhood traditions become every year a reference of fervor, art and community participation.

The choice of the Patron Saint and Perpetual Mayoress of Vera as the central image of the poster not only underlines its spiritual relevance, but also puts in value the deep historical roots that this figure has in the life of the city. Her presence in the official poster reflects the devotion of generations of Veratenses and consolidates the Holy Week of Vera as a singular event within the cultural and religious calendar of the province.

Soon, the official program and the main events of Easter Week 2026 will be published on the web, offering neighbors and visitors all the information about the development of the celebrations, processions, schedules and routes that make up these days of faith and tradition.
