The Holy Week of Vera is preparing to celebrate an event that will remain engraved in the memory of the city: the 75th anniversary of the first procession of the Lord of the Lavatory, one of the most beloved and emblematic images of the local religious heritage. This extraordinary departure pays tribute to a tradition that has accompanied generations of Veratenses since 1950, when it was commissioned to the sculptor Arturo Bayarri after the loss of the images during the Spanish Civil War.
The special procession to commemorate this anniversary will be held this Saturday , October 4, with the departure from the hermitage of San Ramon at 8:00 pm. The route will go through the most emblematic streets of Vera -including Glorieta, Main Street, Plaza Mayor, Plaza Fernando and Alfredo Almunia- to return around midnight to the starting point, in an act that combines solemnity, recollection and popular fervor.
A symbol of humility and dedication
The image of the Lord of the Lavatory, which represents the Gospel moment in which Jesus washes the feet of his disciples, has been a distinctive element of Veratense Holy Week for seven decades. In its first processional outings it was carried by horquilleros; with the passage of time this task evolved to become a symbol of strength and tradition with the participation of 70 women costaleras, keeping alive the historical and devotional essence of the paso.
The figure of the Lord of the Lavatory, together with St. Peter, has traditionally processed on Good Friday, integrating itself in the group of steps that make the Holy Week of Vera unique. Its route is accompanied by faith, respect and emotion, reflecting the deep connection between the sacred images and the local community.
Musical accompaniment and solemnity
The extraordinary procession will be accompanied by the Agrupación Musical Nuestro Padre Jesús de la Redención de Sevilla, a recognized formation in the field of brotherhood that will put a musical seal of excellence to this exceptional commemoration. The music, as in every act of worship and procession of Vera, accompanies the step marking the pulse of the most emotional moments of the day.
An enduring legacy
With this celebration, Vera honors three quarters of a century of faith, tradition and devotion around the Señor del Lavatorio. Beyond the procession, this anniversary is an opportunity to remember the historical and emotional value that this image has had in the spiritual life of the city, and to reinforce the role of Holy Week as a central element of the cultural identity of Vera.
Soon, the complete program of commemorative events related to this 75th anniversary will be available on the official website of the Holy Week of Vera, along with details of schedules and complementary activities.
