Vera, March 06, 2025. Last night, after the Ash Wednesday mass, the Cine Teatro Regio of Vera hosted the presentation of the poster announcing the Veratense Holy Week, a work of the Sevillian artist Daniel Jimenez Diaz, winner of the contest organized by the City Council of the town and awarded with a prize of 500 €.
The event was attended by the first deputy mayor, Carolina Perez, the councilman of Festivities, Antonia Soler, the parish priest Don Jesus and the president of the Association of Brotherhoods and Guilds, Maria Dolores Sanchez Molina, who were responsible for discovering the overwhelming image of Our Father Jesus of Nazareth, the protagonist of the poster that will announce this year’s Easter.
According to the explanation of the author himself, presented along with his work in the contest, “the poster shows us in the foreground Our Father Jesus of Nazareth in profile, reflecting the movement and stride of the image while carrying the Cross. A halo shines behind his bust, highlighting his divinity and the beauty of his profile, while he looks down towards the people of Vera”. The technique used is oil and acrylic on panel, with a predominance of purple tones and flat inks that enhance the figure of the Nazarene. In the lower right part, the composition is completed with the presence of Nazarenes, whose hoods contrast with the background and evoke the transformation that their presence generates in the streets of Vera during Holy Week. Behind them, some of the most emblematic temples of the town frame the processional scene. “In this way, the poster presents Our Father Jesus Nazarene advancing towards Calvary, accompanied by his procession, symbol of the devotion that surrounds him. A procession that walks with Him every Holy Week through the streets of Vera, especially in this Jubilee Year, in which Pope Francis invites us to pilgrimage together to meet the Lord,” explained Jimenez Diaz.
“The emotion of the senses”: an audiovisual tribute to the Holy Week of Vera.
During the presentation, the video “The Emotion of the Senses”, a work of the local production company La Pita y el Pitaco, which seeks to capture the depth and symbolism of Veratense’s Holy Week, was screened. According to María del Mar Navarrete, representative of the production company, “Veratense’s Holy Week is a religious event, but it is also much more. It is history, sentiment and a tradition that unites generations, touching both devotees and those who simply contemplate it”.
Navarrete explained the technical details of the production: “Recorded with three cameras during the Holy Week of 2024, this spot not only portrays the solemnity of the processions and the fervor of its protagonists, but also transmits a universal message, capable of connecting with those who, from inside or outside our land, value our traditions. This project has been conceived as an audiovisual showcase to promote the Holy Week of Vera in tourist fairs and brotherhood events”.
In addition, he highlighted the sensory dimension of this celebration: “At Easter, the streets smell different, the gastronomy acquires a special flavor, the processional steps dazzle with their beauty, the music of the bands envelops the atmosphere…. All this generates a unique experience that unites in the same feeling the whole municipality and the visitors who come to live it”. The argument of the spot, carefully elaborated, invites to look at Easter from a deeper prism: “The emotion it awakens in each person, the identity it reinforces in our people and the legacy it leaves in those who experience it”.
A commitment to tradition and tourism
For his part, the first deputy mayor of Vera, Carolina Perez, praised the great work of the Brotherhoods and Guilds for the Veratense Holy Week “has established itself as one of the most important in the province of Almeria, with processions that fill the streets every day of fervor and unique traditions, such as the Rise of Jesus or the Proclamation of the Jew”. Perez emphasized that “from the City council, this effort is supported with resources, investment and an increase in the subsidies to the Brotherhoods and Guilds, that contribute to ennoble our Holy Week”.
He also stressed the relevance of this celebration as a tourist attraction: “Our Holy Week is an event of enormous cultural and patrimonial value that attracts numerous visitors every year. We have some of the oldest images in the province, such as our beloved Virgen de las Angustias or the imposing Cristo de la Misericordia, jewels that make our processions a reference”.
With this commitment to culture, tradition and tourism promotion, the City Council of Vera reaffirms its commitment to one of the most important festivities of the year.
emblematic of the town, inviting neighbors and visitors to experience Easter in a unique and unforgettable way.
The City Council of Vera gives to the Brotherhoods a unique souvenir of the Holy Week.
The City Council of Vera, in its commitment to preserve and share the essence of the Veratense Holy Week, gave each of the Brotherhoods and Confraternities of the municipality a personalized video of the audiovisual campaign “Easter Vera: The Emotion of the Senses”, “since the images and shots captured during the recordings were so amazing that one of the biggest challenges was to select the most representative moments, given the large amount of material recorded,” as detailed by the head of the production company in charge of the audiovisual.
Thus, the City Council of Vera, aware of the value of this material for the brotherhoods and for all the people of Vera, has decided to go further and offer exclusive content: a series of videos dedicated to each procession, to each brotherhood, which will serve as a valuable visual testimony of this significant celebration, which have been given to the various brotherhoods during the event.
Councilwoman Antonia Marín concluded by stating that “today, more than words, we want to share emotions. Therefore, we proudly present the expanded material of the campaign, a tribute to the devotion, tradition and feeling that make our Holy Week unique”.
