- The mayor of Vera, Alfonso Garcia, has expressed that he continues working to get the Holy Week of Vera to be declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest.
Vera, March 13, 2025. The City Council of Vera presented a book and the new official website of the Holy Week of Vera, an initiative that seeks to bring neighbors and visitors all the information about one of the most emblematic festivities of the city.
Both the book and the digital portal provide detailed information on the scheduled events, processional routes, history and traditions of Easter Week in Veratense. They also include multimedia content, news and all kinds of events and recommendations to make the most of this celebration.
During the presentation, which was attended by the parish priest of the town, Don Jesús Martín; the president of the Association of Brotherhoods and Guilds, María Dolores Sánchez; representatives of the various Brotherhoods and Guilds of the municipality; and the councilors of Promotion of the City, Carolina Pérez, and Celebrations, Antonia Marín, the mayor of the city, Alfonso García, stressed the importance of the new digital tool for the promotion of Easter and the promotion of local and international tourism. “We want both Veratenses and visitors to have access to all the information in a simple and accessible way throughout the year,” said Alfonso Garcia.
Thus, the veratense alderman explained that “from the City Council we are working to take our Holy Week beyond the borders of Andalusia, increasing its recognition and increasing its notoriety to achieve its declaration as a Festival of National Tourist Interest. Today we continue to move in this direction with the launch of this new website and the publication of this book,” said the mayor.
In this sense, the Councillor for Promotion of the City, Carolina Perez, said that “the Holy Week of Vera is not only special for being held in an incomparable setting as is our city, with the tour of the historic center and the beauty of our chapels and the church of Our Lady of the Incarnation, but also to have own and exclusive traditions of the Holy Week of Vera, such as the Ascent of Jesus and the Proclamation of the Jew, which make it unique. All this is a fundamental attraction so that more and more people come to know our Holy Week,” said the councilor, who stressed that “this steady growth in the number of visitors is the impetus that leads us to work to be recognized as a Festival of National Tourist Interest”.
The new website is already available and is expected to become a point of reference for all those interested in this festival, facilitating the monitoring of events and encouraging citizen participation.
